Schematischer, komplexer Aufbau eines Nanopartikels mit einem Durchmesser von zirka zehn Nanometern: Der hellblaue Kern besteht aus einem hartmagnetischen Material (etwa aus einer metallischen Legierung aus Cobalt und Samarium). Der Kern ist von einer bio-kompatiblen Hülle aus Eisenoxid oder Gold umgeben. Die Herstellung und Charakterisierung solcher Partikel ist Ziel des Netzwerkes.
