Dieses Bild der HiCIAO-Kamera am SUBARU-Teleskop bietet einen Blick auf die protoplanetaren Scheibe des jungen Sterns LkCa 15. Ein Teil der Scheibe (weiss) wird vom Stern (Mitte, dunkelrot maskiert) beleuchtet und so sichtbar gemacht. Deutlich zu erkennen ist die scharf definierte Innenkante der Scheibe, wo der Leerraum in ihrer Mitte anfängt. Die Aussparung ist unsymmetrisch – sie ist links deutlich größer als rechts – und dürfte auf einen oder mehrere neugeborene Planeten zurückgehen, die dort um den Stern umlaufen.
