Kreuzblütler wie der Kohl produzieren Senfölglycoside als chemische Waffe gegen Raupen. Wichtig für deren Bildung ist ein Enzym, das aus einem Vorläufer mit ganz anderer Funktion entstanden ist. Das Enzym IPMS (im Bild dreidimensional dargestellt) ist für die Herstellung von Leucin zuständig. Durch den Wegfall von 120 Aminosäuren (blass im Hintergrund) sowie durch zwei Punktmutationen im entsprechenden Gen hat IMPS seine Funktion komplett verändert
