Ökonomen, Modellierer, Juristen, Informatiker und Landschaftsökologen hatten am Beispiel der Regionen Westsachsen und Nordhessen die Konflikte um den Ausbau der Windenergie untersucht. Um das energiepolitische Ziel zu erreichen, die Menge der erneuerbaren Energie von 2007 bis 2020 zu verdoppeln, müssten die Regionen Westsachsen und Nordhessen rund 690 bzw. 540 Gigawattstunden pro Jahr an Strom aus Windkraft produzieren.
