Einer Volkskrankheit auf der Spur: Detaillierte Kenntnisse von Transport und Wirkung von Schilddrüsenhormonen sollen innovative Behandlungsmethoden für Schilddrüsenerkrankungen erschließen. Das Bild zeigt am Beispiel des Schilddrüsengewebes einer Maus das wichtige Transportprotein MCT8 (grün), das Schilddrüsenhormone durch die Wände (rot) der Schilddrüsenfolikel transportiert, wo das Hormon gebildet wird.
