Eine Untergruppe der markierten Neurone übt eine Schalterfunktion für den Aufbau des Langzeitgedächtnisses in Fliegen aus, indem sie über ein Kern-Kalzium-Signal die Produktion von „Gedächtnisproteinen“ steuert.
