Manche Totenbuchsprüche wurden mit so genannten "Vignetten" illustriert. Hier die Vignette zu Totenbuchspruch 89. Der Verstorbene liegt auf der Bahre. Der "Ba" genannte Vogel mit dem Menschenkopf symbolisiert die Seele des Verstorbenen. Die Ba-Seele löst sich nach dem Tod vom Menschen, vereinigt sich aber auch danach immer wieder mit ihm und stellt ihm dadurch ihre Kräfte zur Verfügung.
