Abb.2: Atome und Moleküle im Interferenz-Bild. Nach dem Ausschalten des optischen Gitters fliegen die Atome auseinander, was mit einer CCD-Kamera beobachtet werden kann. Dabei bildet sich das gezeigte Interferenzmuster mit den typischen Satellitenpeaks. Die drei Bilder wurden aufgenommen (von hinten nach vorne): vor der Molekülerzeugung, nach der Molekülerzeugung und nachdem die Molekülbindung wieder aufgebrochen wurde. Die starke Ähnlichkeit des ersten und des dritten Interferenzmusters beweist das Gelingen des Experimentes. Beim mittleren Interferenzbild tragen nur die einzelnen Atome zum Signal bei, während die Moleküle unsichtbar sind.
