Abb.: Die hierarchische Struktur von Knochen ermöglicht eine hierarchische Deformation aufgrund eines schrittweisen Transfers der Last bis auf die Nanoebene. Die gelben Zylinder zeigen mineralisierte Kollagenfibrillen im Längenschnitt, die roten Tafeln stellen Apatitkristalle dar, die innerhalb der Kollagenmatrix der Fibrillen eingebettet sind. Die grünen Bereiche symbolisieren die extrem verformbare Klebeschicht zwischen den Fibrillen. Die Belastung nimmt von dem abgebildeten Gewebe (links) zur Mineralpartikelebene (rechts) im Verhältnis von 12:5:2 ab.
