Die roten Flächen mit gesundem Gehirngewebe zeigen es: Genetisch veränderte Mäuse ohne von Willebrand Faktor (vWF) entwickeln kleinere Schlaganfälle (Mitte) als normale Mäuse (links). Gibt man Mäusen mit vWF-Mangel von außen vWF zu, so fallen die beim Schlaganfall zerstörten Areale - weiß markiert - wieder größer aus (rechts).
