Richtungsentscheidung: Ein Netz aus Eisen und einer organischen Säure ändert sich die Orientierung des magnetischen Stabmagnete an einem Eisenatom, wenn sich ein Sauerstoffmoleküle auf diese setzen. Mit Sauerstoffkrone steht das magnetische Moment senkrecht zur Netzebene, ohne liegt es waagerecht darin. Das große Bild zeigt die Aufnahme eines Rastertunnelelektronenmikroskops; die Ausschnitte illustrieren den chemischen Aufbau (grün - Eisen; schwarz - Kohlenstoff; weiß - Wasserstoff und rot - Sauerstoff), oben mit adsorbiertem Sauerstoff und unten ohne.
