Als Folge der Alterung der Babyboomer sinkt in Deutschland seit Jahren die Zahl von Frauen im gebärfähigen Alter. Bei gleichbleibender Fertilität muss deshalb auch die jährliche Zahl der Neugeborenen abnehmen. Lange ist aber auch die Zahl der Neugeborenen je 1.000 Frauen im gebärfähigen Alter gesunken - ein Zeichen für eine wachsende Kindermüdigkeit in Deutschland. Dieser Trend wurde erst im Jahr 2007 gebrochen - zeitgleich mit der Einführung des Elterngeldes. Auch wenn dieser Zusammenhang nicht zu beweisen ist: Der - kleine - Erfolg der neuen Familienpolitik lässt sich kaum anders erklären.
