Bei Raumtemperatur hat der mechanische Oszillator eine sehr hohe thermische Besetzungszahl von etwa 94,000 Quanten (roter Punkt). Aber die Kombination von Helium-Kühlung (grüne Punkte) und aufgelöster Seitenband-Laserkühlung (blaue Punkte) erniedrigt die Zahl der Oszillator-Schwingungsquanten auf 60. Das kleine eingefügte Bild zeigt die Abstimmung der Laserfrequenz auf die niedrigere optische Seitenband-Resonanz des Oszillators.
