Drastische Veränderungen des Phytoplanktons bei einer Erwärmung um sechs Grad Celsius: Das linke Bild zeigt ein mikroskopisches Foto von der Frühjahrsblüte des Phytoplanktons, wie sie sich unter gegenwärtigen Temperaturverhältnissen ausbildet. Große Kieselalgen dominieren. Bei sechs Grad Celsius Erwärmung (rechtes Bild) dominieren hingegen wesentlich kleinere Flagellaten.
