FIZ CHEMIE Berlin congratulates Prof. Gasteiger for receiving a lifetime-award from the Chemical Structure Association Trust. Award ceremonies take place during the 7th International Conference on Chemical Structures in Noordwijkerhout, The Netherlands.
Berlin / Noordwijkerhout, May 2005 - Prof. Dr. Johann Gasteiger will be honoured with the 2005 Chemical Structure Association (CSA) Trust Mike Lynch Award.
The CSA Trust acknowledges Prof. Gasteiger's outstanding accomplishments in the field of computational chemistry and structure analysis.
The Mike Lynch Award is given on a tri-annual basis, consisting of five thousand US dollars ($ 5,000) and an appropriate memento. This year's award ceremonies take place during the 7th International Conference on Chemical Structures in Noordwijkerhout, The Netherlands, on June 5th.
Prof. Dr. René Deplanque, Chair of the CSA Trust Nominating Committee and Managing Director of FIZ CHEMIE Berlin, congratulates Prof. Gasteiger with particular pleasure. FIZ CHEMIE cooperated with Prof. Gasteiger since 1985, when he was responsible for developing the "ChemInform" reaction database. From 1999 until 2004 he collaborated with the institute during a lighthouse project (Networked Chemistry Studies, short: VS-C), founded by The Federal Ministry of Education and Research.
Prof. Gasteiger was born in 1941 in southern Germany and studied chemistry at the universities of Munich and Zuerich. In 1971 he achieved his PhD. After a postdoc stay at the University of California, Berkeley, in 1971/72, he returned to Munich where he became Professor in 1988. In 1994 he moved to the University of Erlangen-Nuernberg where he founded the Computer-Chemie-Centrum.
Prof. Gasteiger is a member of ACS, CSA, MGMS, the German Chemical Society and of several editorial boards.
