Agrobiotechnology - New international Master's Program in Gießen

Christel Lauterbach Presse, Kommunikation und Marketing
Justus-Liebig-Universität Gießen

20 university places - Closing date for applications is September 30th 2005

The Justus-Liebig-Universität in Gießen is the first German university to offer the newly designed international Degree Program in Agrobiotechnology. Students from across the globe can experience a combination of professional training and scientific studies in the fields of agriculture and nutrition. Students will receive the most current information from both theoretical and practical perspectives, enabling graduates to hold their own in the global market. This is facilitated by the use of English as the working language of the program, reflecting the international nature of the student body. In July the accreditation society ASIIN Application declared the accreditation of the new study course with the degree Master of Science (M. Sc.). So the new Master's program will start in the winter semester of 2005/06. The application term for 20 university places starts now and ends on September 30th 2005.

Learning the theory and practice of modern agronomic knowledge, in conjunction with the basics of biochemistry and physiology, will enable students to stand their ground worldwide. The study course concentrates on teaching and research resources in the newly founded Research Centre for Bio Systems, Land Use and Nutrition. This gives students the chance to study and work in an innovative environment, well financed by third-party funds, and with excellent international contacts. The centre guarantees an efficient blend of up-to-date courses and cutting-edge research.

Biotechnology is a new prime technology, which will govern economic development and competitiveness in Europe. Since the early 1990s there has been rapid progress in the life sciences, caused mainly by the results of genome research and, more recently, by rapid developments in cell biology (cell factories). Developments in these areas are predicted to accelerate. Use of this developing knowledge in the basic subjects areas will be crucial for the development of useful technologies.

In life science industry and research, biotechnology has established itself as a bridging technology. The economic success of this subject means that students naturally have high expectations of their careers. In the future, highly qualified experts will be needed, who can bring not just specialist knowledge, but also multidisciplinary qualifications. The Justus-Liebig-Universität has set up a new international Master's Degree in Agrobiotechnology to cope with the world-wide growing importance of biotechnology in plant and animal production, and in nutritional sciences, in university education.

    Help

Search / advanced search of the idw archives
    Combination of search terms

You can combine search terms with and, or and/or not, e.g. Philo not logy.

    Brackets

You can use brackets to separate combinations from each other, e.g. (Philo not logy) or (Psycho and logy).

    Phrases

Coherent groups of words will be located as complete phrases if you put them into quotation marks, e.g. “Federal Republic of Germany”.

    Selection criteria

You can also use the advanced search without entering search terms. It will then follow the criteria you have selected (e.g. country or subject area).

If you have not selected any criteria in a given category, the entire category will be searched (e.g. all subject areas or all countries).
