Ende September 2005 gab die Leitung der IBM-Forschung bekannt, dass Dr.
Nelson Mattos zum Vizepräsidenten des IBM-Forschungsbereichs für Information
und Interaktion befördert wird. Damit erhält Dr. Mattos die Verantwortung
zur strategischen Ausrichtung der IBM-Forschung in den Bereichen
Informationsmanagement, unstrukturierte Informationen und multimodale und
gesprächsorientierte Interaktion.
Dr. Mattos promovierte 1989 im Fachbereich Informatik der TU Kaiserslautern.
1991 wechselte er dann zunächst als Gastwissenschaftler zu IBM in die USA.
In den folgenden 14 Jahren war ihm dann eine steile Karriere innerhalb von
IBM vergönnt. Schon frühzeitig spielte er eine Schlüsselrolle in der
Datenbankentwicklung und -standardisierung. Später hatte er im Bereich
Informationsmanagement der IBM eine Reihe von Leitungspositionen im
gehobenen Management inne und war dort zuletzt als Direktor und
Vizepräsident für den erfolgreichen Aufbau des Geschäftssegments
Informationsintegration verantwortlich.
Der Fachbereich Informatik und die TU Kaiserslautern wünschen ihm für seine
neue Aufgabe alles Gute.
