Am 15.12.2005 um 18 Uhr präsentiert Dr. Farish Noor den Alltag von Koranschülern in zwei der bekanntesten Madrasahs von Indien.
Moderation: PD Dr. Dietrich Reetz, ZMO
Anschliessend führen Dr. Reetz und Dr. Noor durch eine Fotoausstellung mit seltenen Innenansichten aus Deoband und Lucknow. Die Ausstellung wird bis zum 30. Januar 2006 am ZMO gezeigt.

Das Zentrum Moderner Orient (ZMO) ist die einzige Forschungseinrichtung Deutschlands, die sich interdisziplinär und in historisch-vergleichender Perspektive mit dem Nahen Osten, Afrika, Süd- und Südostasien befasst. Im Mittelpunkt der Forschung steht die Interaktion überwiegend islamisch geprägter Gesellschaften sowie deren Beziehungen mit den nicht-islamischen Nachbarregionen.
Der Text ist selbstverständlich frei zum Abdruck. Es gibt eine Auswahl von Fotos aus der Ausstellung, die wir Ihnen gerne zur Verfügung stellen. Der Abdruck der Fotos erfolgt nur honorarfrei im Zusammenhang mit der Berichterstattung über die Ausstellung. Über ein Belegexemplar/-link freuen wir uns sehr.
Dr Farish A. Noor gives an intimate view of the world of madrasahs - institutions that have existed for hundreds of years and which have produced countless scholars, jurists and statesmen all over the Muslim world. Focusing on two of the most important madrasahs of India, the Dar'ul Uloom madrasah of Deoband and the Nadwatul Ul'oom madrasah of Lucknow, Farish Noor presents daily life inside the madrasahs and a glimpse into a world that has hitherto only been written about, but rarely visited. Based on fieldwork conducted at these institutions and on interviews with students as well as teachers, Farish Noor demonstrates that the world of madrasahs is far more complex and constantly evolving.
The presentation will include a 3-dimensional presentation of the interior of the Deoband madrasah made by Caram Kapp. Afterwards you are invited to visit an exhibition at the ZMO of unique photographs taken in both madrasahs by Dr. Farish Noor and PD Dr. Dietrich Reetz.
