Karlsruhe, April 1998 - Professor Dr. Georg Friedrich Schultheiss (60), wissenschaftlich-technischer Geschaeftsfuehrer des Fachinformations-zen-trums (FIZ) Karlsruhe, ist 1998 Chairman of the Council der European Association of Information Services (EUSIDIC). EUSIDIC ist ein Zusam-menschluss der professionellen europaeischen Informations- und Dokumen-tationsszene. Mitglieder sind Verlagshaeuser, Online-Service-Anbieter, Softwareentwickler, Fachgesellschaften, Datenbankproduzenten, CD-ROM-Hersteller, Universitaetsbibliotheken, Behoerden, Nutzer, Telekommu-nikationsunternehmen, Informationsvermittler, Multimedia-Entwickler usw. EUSIDIC nutzt diese einzigartige Mischung aus, um Anbieter und Kunden in einem Umfeld zusammenzubringen, in dem sie sich zum gegenseitigen Vorteil fachlich austauschen koennen. Neben einer Vielzahl von Themen der Informationsbereitstellung unterstuetzt EUSIDIC auch ein gesponsertes Forschungsprogramm. Aktuelle Themen sind beispielsweise Copyright-Fragen, Internet/Intranets, Intelligent Agents/Kuenstliche Intelligenz (KI/AI), Executive Information Systems (EIS) und Competitive Intelligence Programmes (CIP).
Das FIZ Karlsruhe produziert Datenbanken sowie Software fuer die Struk-turierung, die Suche und die Abfrage von Datenbanken (Retrieval-Pro-gramme). Gemeinsam mit dem amerikanischen Chemcial Abstracts Service (CAS), Columbus, Ohio und der Japan Science and Technology Corporation (JST) betreibt das FIZ Karlsruhe das wissen-schaftlich-technische Informationsnetz STN International. Auf diesem Host sind ueber 200 Datenbanken mit Informationen fuer Wissenschaft, Forschung,Technik, Patente sowie relevante Wirtschaftsinfor-mationen zur Verfuegung gestellt.
