In seiner heutigen Sitzung hat der Universitätsrat der EBERHARD KARLS UNIVERSITÄT TÜBINGEN Prof. Dr. Bernd Engler, Amerikanistik, zum neuen Rektor gewählt. Gegenkandidat bei der Wahl war Prof. Dr. Herbert Müther, Theoretische Physik. Nach § 17 Abs. 5 Landeshochschulgesetz bedarf die Wahl durch den Universitätsrat der Bestätigung durch den Senat. Der Senat wird in öffentlicher Sitzung am Donnerstag, dem 4. Mai 2006 tagen. Der neue Rektor soll sein Amt am 1. Oktober 2006 nach vorheriger Ernennung durch den Ministerpräsidenten antreten.

Bernd Engler (51) studierte Anglistik/Amerikanistik und Philosophie an der Universität Freiburg und an der University of Kent. Promotion und Habilitation in Freiburg. Als Heisenberg-Stipendiat Forschungsaufenthalte in den USA und England. 1992 Ruf auf den Lehrstuhl für Amerikanistik in Tübingen. 2001 Landeslehrpreis. Sprecher des Graduiertenschulen-Antrags "Textuality and the Dynamics of Cultures" in der Exzellenzinitiative.
