Prof. Simon White, Direktor am Max-Planck-Institut für Astrophysik, erhält die Goldmedaille 2006 der Royal Astronomical Society
Am 12. Mai 2006 verleiht die Royal Astronomical Society von England ihre diesjährigen wissenschaftlichen Preise. Die höchste Auszeichnung, die Goldmedaille 2006, geht an Professor Simon D. M. White für seine grundlegenden Forschungen über die Entstehung kosmischer Strukturen im frühen Universum bis zur heutigen Zeit. Diese Arbeiten waren wegweisend, um das Modell der kalten dunklen Materie mit einer kosmologischen Konstante zu entwickeln, das nun zum Standardmodell des Universums geworden ist und eine der bemerkenswertesten Erkenntnisse in der Astronomie der letzten drei Jahrzehnte darstellt.
