Applying anesthetics safely - New sensor technology at the IVAM booth at Compamed / Medica 2006

Josefine Zucker Presse- und Öffentlichkeitsarbeit
IVAM Fachverband für Mikrotechnik

The wrong dosage of anesthetics can be dangerous for patients. A new flow sensor technology gives additional security to anesthetists to apply the active ingredients correctly. The MEMS sensors with digital signal processing are presented by the Swiss company Sensirion at Compamed from November 15 to 17, 2006. During the suppliers' fair Compamed within the Medica, Sensirion and other enterprises present medical novelties at the Product Market High-tech for Medical Devices. The joint pavilion is organized by IVAM Microtechnology Network.

Sensirion's thermal flow sensor is connected with a precise evaluation circuit and a storage unit on only one microchip. This way, the sensitive signals can be boosted and digitized failure-free. The silicon chips are used for mass flow measurement of liquids and gases, for example for the dosage of anesthetics, monitoring of artificial respiration or handling of smallest quantities of liquid samples in diagnostics and analytics. For micro-fluidic applications, a dissolving down to the nano-liter scale is realized.

The exhibitors of the IVAM joint pavilion High-tech for Medical Devices can expect visitors from all over the world at Compamed embedded in the medical trade fair Medica. Also in the center of attraction is the forum with practical contributions from industry and research.
