The overall goal of silicon photonics is to integrate optical components onto silicon wafers using the same standard CMOS technologies used today for manufacturing electronic integrated circuits and thereby lowering the cost of photonics.
Researches have been studying silicon photonics for more than 20 years now to overcome the disadvantages of silicon as a material for optical applications. The workshop will show you the state-of-the-art of science and technology on silicon photonics. Recently, there have been some major breakthroughs on a continuous silicon laser and a gigahertz silicon modulator.
The workshop is organized by Optence, one of the regional competence networks for optical technologies in Germany. For the one day workshop there are invited highly recognized European scientists who have published many papers on silicon photonics.
Date and location: November 10th, 2006 in Mainz, Germany.
The invitation flyer contains more detailed information for you about the program, the speakers and the registration procedure.

English
You can combine search terms with and, or and/or not, e.g. Philo not logy.
You can use brackets to separate combinations from each other, e.g. (Philo not logy) or (Psycho and logy).
Coherent groups of words will be located as complete phrases if you put them into quotation marks, e.g. “Federal Republic of Germany”.
You can also use the advanced search without entering search terms. It will then follow the criteria you have selected (e.g. country or subject area).
If you have not selected any criteria in a given category, the entire category will be searched (e.g. all subject areas or all countries).
