The Rationality of Gut Feeling
First international conference on Personal Construct Psychology in Business
Contexts (PCPBC) takes place in Chemnitz, Germany
The best decisions do not always derive from analytical reasoning, says Dr. Matthias Rosenberger, research associate at the Faculty of Economics and Business Administration at Chemnitz University of Technology. The fact that emotional and subconscious principles, that is, the gut feeling, significantly influence our decisions is verified by latest research findings in psychology. Intuitive decisions are more reliable and make us feel more comfortable. Until today it seemed impossible to effectively use implicit knowledge, attitudes and visions. Although previous methods have academically been established so far, they were not yet applicable for business contexts. American psychologist George A. Kelly combined theory and practice and, thus, enables scholars from Chemnitz to utilize the implicit knowledge of employees for the first time.
It is the human being as a scientist which is the main focus of the first international conference "Personal Construct Psychology in Business Contexts (PCPBC)" taking place from November 24 to 26, 2006 at Chemnitz University of Technology. Chair of Organisation Studies has invited outstanding scholars from all over the world who will present their latest research findings. One highlight of the conference will be the talk of the professor of Constructivist Managerial Psychology, A. D. Jankowicz, of University of Bedfordshire, UK, who will introduce the participants to his theory of "Making-Sense of Practice". Business professionals like Thomas Landschof, global player in the field of "Strategic Networking", will disclose the secrets of international business networks. Consultant Frank Menzel (Festo Didactic) will present the method "SCIVESCO" which makes peoples' attitudes and visions clearly visible. In his workshop "Do You Speak Transverbal?" Hans-Peter Schulz makes organisational structures comprehensible.
With their conference the organisation team around Dr. Rosenberger and Sina Nitzsche aims especially at the mutual exchange between academic research and its practical application. Therefore, the organizers want to address the ambitious academic offspring in addition to the established scientific community and business representatives. Young scholars will have the opportunity to engage in academic exchange as well as to network with practitioners.
