On the way to painless diagnostics and treatment: Medical innovations at Compamed 2006

Josefine Zucker Presse- und Öffentlichkeitsarbeit
IVAM Fachverband für Mikrotechnik

Once again, Compamed, which took place from November 15 to 17, 2006, has demonstrated impressively that it is the leading international market place for suppliers of medical technology. About 10,000 managers, product developers and buyers visited the trade fair, which took place parallel to Medica. Many of them discussed possible applications in medical technology with the 25 exhibitors of the joint pavilion Hightech for Medical Devices, organized by IVAM Microtechnology Network. Companies like Bayer Material Science, Siemens Optical Solutions, eagleyard Photonics and Silex Microsystems presented a broad range of new products, services and techniques. As compared to the previous year, four times more companies and institutes exhibited with IVAM.

In the focus of the Product Market Hightech for Medical Devices were innovations from the areas of microtechnology, nanotechnology and advanced materials, like biocompatible plastics, piezoceramic components, sensor systems, laser and measurement technology. On the forum Hightech for Medical Devices, about 20 experts like Philips Research or VDI Technologiezentrum GmbH introduced innovations and market developments in medical technology.

According to the organizers Messe Düsseldorf, circa 40 percent of the visitors of Medica and Compamed came from abroad, which was confirmed by the exhibitors of the IVAM joint pavilion like Matthias König from Servometer: "We were especially exited about the international visitors", says König. The majority of the IVAM exhibitors was very satisfied with the fair. "Our conclusion after Compamed is absolutely positive: We had many good and exceptionally detailed talks", affirms Dr. Martin Wehner from the Fraunhofer-Institute for Laser Technology ILT. "The number of visitors and quality of the contacts were excellent", Markus Lotz from Siemens Optical Solutions is pleased to announce.

In 2007, IVAM will organize a joint pavilion for high-tech companies and institutes in cooperation with Messe Düsseldorf again. "We already have a strong demand for the next Compamed from November 14 to 16 - this shows that medical technology is still the major target market for micro and nanotechnology suppliers", states IVAM CEO Dr. Uwe Kleinkes.
