Zu Gesprächen über die Unterstützung beim Aufbau eines Studienprogramms "Tourismus" an der im Jahre 2003 gegründeten Arabisch-Europäischen Universität in Damaskus (Syrien) traf sich deren Präsident, Prof. Dr. Abdul Ghani Maa Bared, mit Rektor Prof. Dr. Armin Willingmann und Tourismus-Professorin Dr. Karla Henschel an der Hochschule Harz.
Prof. Maa Bared, früherer Rektor der staatlichen Universität von Damaskus, und sein Stellvertreter, Prof. Dr. Michael Dittgen (vormals Schering AG, Berlin), betonten den guten Ruf der akademischen Ausbildung in Wernigerode und würden es begrüßen, wenn neben der Martin-Luther-Universität Halle, mit der man bereits kooperiere, eine engere Zusammenarbeit mit der Hochschule Harz im Bereich der Tourismus-Studiengänge zustände käme.
Rektor Willingmann legte den Gästen das internationale Konzept der Hochschule dar und stellte die Aufnahme von Kooperationsverhandlungen zur Einrichtung eines gemeinsamen Studienprogramms noch im laufenden Jahr in Aussicht.
