"Pyramidal Research"

Margit Fink Präsidialbüro und Pressestelle
Bundesforschungsanstalt für Landwirtschaft (FAL)

FAL and ARC organise workshops on green biotechnology in the frame of the German/Egypt Year of Technology and Science

"Better plants for better life" is the message of workshops organised jointly by the Institute of Plant Nutrition and Soil Science at the Federal Research Center for Agriculture in Braunschweig, Germany, (FAL) and the Agricultural Research Center (ARC) of the Egyptian Ministry for Agriculture in Cairo (Photo 1). The workshops are contributions of the "green" biotechnolgie to the German/Egypt Year of Technology and Science (http://www.yearofscience.org/) conducted by the two countries to celebrate 100 years of co-operation. On the first workshop, conducted from April 24-26 in Cairo, scientists from the German Universities in Braunschweig, Heidelberg and Rostock, Moshtohor and Cairo in Egypt, ARC and the National Research Center (NRC) in Cairo and FAL in Braunschweig, demonstrated and discussed in plenary lectures (Photo 2) the possibilities of modern production technologies to improve plants resistance against abiotic (drought, salinity) and biotic (pests and diseases) stress factors and the challenge to supply distinguished plant materials of high quality standards with special nutritional, pharmaceutical or environmental features. Aspects of Engineering Results Assessment and Sustainable Development of new technologies and strategies in agriculture were addressed in the workshop as well.
A second workshop addressing aspects of genetic engineering to produce "Better Plants for Better Life" will be conducted in the beginning of December at FAL in Germany.

The lectures will be available on the websites of FAL (www.fal.de) and the German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD) in Cairo:

Search / advanced search of the idw archives
    Combination of search terms

You can combine search terms with and, or and/or not, e.g. Philo not logy.

    Brackets

You can use brackets to separate combinations from each other, e.g. (Philo not logy) or (Psycho and logy).

    Phrases

Coherent groups of words will be located as complete phrases if you put them into quotation marks, e.g. “Federal Republic of Germany”.

    Selection criteria

You can also use the advanced search without entering search terms. It will then follow the criteria you have selected (e.g. country or subject area).

If you have not selected any criteria in a given category, the entire category will be searched (e.g. all subject areas or all countries).
