Neu veröffentlichte Liste des IUNC beruft sich u.a. auf die Einschätzung von Experten des Max-Planck-Instituts für evolutionäre Anthropologie
Die Internationale Vereinigung für Arten- und Naturschutz (International Union for Conservation of Nature and Natural Resources, IUCN) hat eine überarbeitete Ausgabe der Roten Liste gefährdeter Arten veröffentlicht. Eine wichtige Aktualisierung ist die Statusänderung des Westlichen Gorillas: Er wird jetzt als "stark gefährdet" eingestuft. Gründe dafür sind die unkontrollierte Wilderei und massive Ausbrüche des tödlichen Ebola-Virus, die etwa ein Drittel der in den Schutzgebieten lebenden Gorillas in den letzten 15 Jahren getötet haben. Zum IUCN-Expertenteam gehörten auch Wissenschaftler des Max-Planck-Instituts für evolutionäre Anthropologie in Leipzig.
