Oldenburg/Frankfurt/M. Rund 200 WissenschaftlerInnen aus 18 Ländern, vor allem aus Europa, aber auch aus den USA, Kanada und Australien, werden zu dem ersten europäischen Retina-Kongress erwartet, der vom 4. bis 6. Oktober in Frankfurt/M. stattfindet.
Themen sind die Entwicklung der Retina, die funktionelle neuronale Architektur, Adaptation und räumlich-zeitliche Kodierung. Veranstalter ist die bundesweite Forschergruppe "Dynamik und Stabilisierung retinaler Verarbeitung", die ihr Zentrum an der Universität Oldenburg hat und deren Sprecher der Neurobiologe Prof. Dr. Reto Weiler ist. Der Kongress spiegele nicht nur den Stand der internationalen Retinaforschung wider, so Weiler, sondern zeige auch, welche Dynamik in der europäischen Retinaforschung herrsche.
In der Netzhaut (Retina) des Auges werden aus dem einfallenden Licht durch neuronale Interaktionen die ersten visuellen Informationen erzeugt, aus denen im Gehirn schließlich die visuelle Wahrnehmung entsteht.
