Gruss: Institut für Biowissenschaften ist Teil einer systematischen Internationalisierungsstrategie
Der Senat der Max-Planck-Gesellschaft hat am 23. November der Gründung des ersten Auslandsinstituts in den USA zugestimmt. Das Max Planck Florida Institute soll bereits 2008 auf dem Jupiter Campus der Florida Atlantic University (FAU) in unmittelbarer Nähe zum Scripps-Forschungsinstitut seine Arbeit aufnehmen. Der zuständige Palm Beach County im Bundesstaat Florida hatte schon im September 2007 einstimmig die Summe von 87 Millionen US-Dollar für die kommenden zehn Jahre zugesagt. Eine weitere Förderung von über neunzig Millionen US-Dollar seitens des Staats Florida gilt als sehr wahrscheinlich. Damit würde das Institut ausschließlich aus US-amerikanischen Geldern finanziert. Die Gründung dieses rechtlich selbständigen Institutes ist Teil der Internationalisierungsstrategie der Max-Planck-Gesellschaft.
