As contribution to the International Year of Planet Earth and co-operating with the Alfred-Wegener-Institute for Polar Research Bremerhaven (AWI) and the Research Center for Geosciences (GFZ) Potsdam the geo portal planeterde.de launches its video competition "GeoResearch unplugged" on February the 1st. Everybody who is interested from all geoscientific areas is welcome to send in his individual video until the 30th April 2008. Following a review all contributions will be published on the website http://www.planeterde.de. The top ten of the movies will be awarded with book prices.
iving down to the Indian Ocean seafloor, taking sediment cores deep below the earth's surface or investigating climate changes by following Amundsen's tracks in Antarctica - that sounds thrilling and like adventure. But what is geoscience really about? The campaign "GeoResearch unplugged - send in your video" will take you closer to answer that question. Central theme of the filmlets should be geoscience, there is no limit concerning topic and style of the videos. If descriptive or melodramatic, if thrilling or funny, a documentation of a scientific research cruise or even a short cut of the collected impressions made on a geoscience field trip - everything is possible. Everybody who is interested in geosiences may participate in the competition, students and young researchers as well as enthusiastic laymen.
The videos should not exceed an overall length of 3:30 minutes. Instead of sending the videos, each participant should post his film on www.youtube.de. Every participant must give notice to the planeterde editorial office of the corresponding web link. After a quality review the videos will be published at http://www.planeterde.de/GeoForschung_unplugged and thus enter the competition. Filmlets of racist, sexist or any content glorifying violence will be excluded from the competition.
