Im Rahmen eines deutsch-russischen Kooperationsprojektes (Laptev-See-Projekt, Teilprojektleiter Prof. Dr. Günther Heinemann) nehmen zwei Mitarbeiter der Umweltmeteorologie (FB VI der Universität Trier) an einer Expedition in die sibirische Arktis teil. Vom 6. April bis 8. Mai 2008 werden Prof. Dr. Alfred Helbig und Thomas Ernsdorf in das Gebiet des Lena-Deltas reisen, um dort auf dem Meereis meteorologische Messungen durchzuführen. Zusammen mit anderen Partnern aus Deutschland und Russland soll das Verhalten des Meereises und des Ozeans in einer bezüglich des Klimawandels besonders sensitiven Region erforscht werden.
