Im Rahmen des Frankfurter Licht-Kultur-Spektakels "Luminale", (6. bis 11. April 2008) wird der Lichtkokon von Wolfgang Rang, Architekturprofessor an der Fachhochschule Frankfurt am Main - University of Applied Sciences (FH FFM), illuminiert.
Der Lichtkokon ist eine 16 Meter lange begehbare Tages- und Kunstlicht-Skulptur. Er hat die Form eines außen und innen verspiegelten Zeppelins. Die Außenraum-Lichtinszenierung wird durch Klangwelten des Komponisten Jan Jacob Hofmann begleitet (sonicarchitecture).
Die Idee zum Lichtkokon entstand im Rahmen eines Projekts mit Architekturstudierenden der FH FFM. Rang hat mit ihnen für den Lichtkokon fünf Tonnen Stahl und zwei Tonnen Aluminium verbaut. Für die Luminale 2006 wurde das Projekt realisiert und erstmals der Öffentlichkeit präsentiert. Seitdem bekam der Lichtkokon viele Preise und wurde 2008 ein ausgezeichneter Ort im "Land der Ideen".
