Der Sonderforschungsbereich 421 (protektive und pathologische Folgen der Antigen-Verarbeitung) führt vom 9. bis 11. November in Berlin ein internationales Symposium durch, an dem namhafte Referenten aus dem In- und Ausland neue Forschungsergebnisse präsentieren werden. Themenschwerpunkte sind
- Autoantigene,
- T- und B-Zelldifferenzierung,
- Immunpathologie des entzündeten Gewebes,
- Molekulares Mimikry sowie
- mikrobielle T-Zellaktivierung.
Wir erwarten mehr als 200 Besucher aus Berlin und Umgebung, sowie aus der gesamten Bundesrepublik. Zu den eingeladenen Gastrednern zählen:

Branch Moody (USA), Maria-Grazia Roncarolo (Italien), Francesco Sinigaglia (Italien), Joseph Smolen (Österreich), Cor L. Verweij (Niederlande), Hartmut Wekerle (Deutschland), Gerhild Wildner (Deutschland).
Die Teilnahme ist kostenfrei, wir bitten aber um vorherige Anmeldung (unter: kuenne@drfz.de). Veranstaltungsort ist die Kaiserin-Friedrich-Stiftung, Robert-Koch-Platz 7, 10115 Berlin (Mitte).
Der SFB 421 stellt einen Zusammenschluss von Arbeitsgruppen der Charité, des Max-Planck-Instituts für Infektionsbiologie, des DRFZ, des Robert-Koch-Instituts sowie des Universitätsklinikums Benjamin Franklin der FU Berlin dar. Er wird von der DFG seit 1999 gefördert. Durch eine enge Verzahnung von exzellenten universitären und außeruniversitären grundlagenorientierten Forschungsgruppen mit klinischen Arbeitsgruppen ist es gelungen, einen Forschungsverbund zu gründen, der für die Biomedizin in Berlin eine zentrale Bedeutung haben wird, insbesondere für den Bereich Immunpathologie.
