Cécilie Vogt Clinic for Neurology Opens in Berlin-Buch

Barbara Bachtler Presse- und Öffentlichkeitsarbeit
Max-Delbrück-Centrum für Molekulare Medizin (MDC) Berlin-Buch

The Cécilie Vogt Clinic for Neurology, a joint undertaking of the Charité - Universitätsmedizin Berlin, the Helios-Klinikum Berlin-Buch and the Max Delbrück Center for Molecular Medicine (MDC) Berlin-Buch, Germany, opened officially on Monday, May 26, 2008. Professor Frauke Zipp is scientific director of the clinic. In conjunction with this position, she holds a professorship in molecular neurology at the Charité. Professor Zipp is also a research group leader at the MDC.

With the Céciile Vogt Clinic, neurology is represented at MDC not only as a research field but as a clinical specialty. Discoveries in the laboratory can thus be seamlessly translated into treatment in the clinic. The MDC investigates the molecular pathogenesis of neurological diseases, cardiovascular and metabolic diseases, and cancer. In the two last-mentioned research fields, laboratory-clinical collaboration has existed for more than fifteen years with the Robert Rössle Cancer Clinic and the Franz Volhard Clinic for Cardiovascular Diseases (Charité/Helios) in Berlin-Buch.

The newly opened clinic is named after the French brain researcher Cécile Vogt (1875-1962), whose work paved the way for a better understanding of the structure of the brain. Together with her husband, the German brain researcher Oskar Vogt, she conducted research at the former Kaiser Wilhelm Institute for Brain Research, renamed the Oskar and Cécile Vogt Building, at Campus Berlin-Buch.
