Dr. Michael Opielka, Professor für Sozialpolitik an der Fachhochschule Jena, referiert zum Wandel des Wohlfahrtsstaates aus soziologischer und psychologischer Perspektive.
Am Mittwoch, dem 26. November findet um 14.00 Uhr im FLI im Rahmen der Vortragsserie "Science & Society" die Präsentation von Prof. Dr. Michael Opielka statt. Er fokussiert dabei den kulturellen und politischen Wandel in soziologischer und psychologischer Perspektive.
"Der Wohlfahrtsstaat ordnet den Lebenslauf seiner Bürger durch die Festlegung von biografischen Übergängen, bspw. durch die Festlegung des Renteneintrittsalters", erläutert Opielka. Die demografischen Verschiebungen stellen diese abrupten Übergänge zunehmend in Frage. Alternative und gesellschaftlich nachhaltige Lösungen werden damit immer bedeutender. Der Sozialstaatsexperte sucht auch Antworten darauf, wie sich die Altersleitbilder verändern und wie der Wohlfahrtsstaat auf diesen Wandel reagiert.
Wie lassen sich Generationengerechtigkeit und demokratische Prozesse vereinbaren, wenn die ältere Generation um Privilegien fürchtet? "Die alternde Gesellschaft weckt Ängste vor Abbau, Tod und vor der Macht der Alten", erklärt er. Dies führe einerseits zu einer Verleugnung des Alters selbst und zugleich zu einem Beharren auf überlebte Formen des Lebenslaufes.
Mit der Vortragsserie "Science & Society" sollen ergänzend zur naturwissenschaftlichen Forschung geisteswissenschaftliche Aspekte der alternden Gesellschaft allgemeinverständlich beleuchtet werden. Die Organisatoren der Vortragsreihe, die Forschungsgruppenleiterin Dr. Aspasia Ploubidou und der Betriebsrat des Leibniz-Instituts, sehen dem Vortrag mit Spannung entgegen und hoffen auf großes Interesse. Die Vortragssprache ist deutsch, Gäste sind herzlich eingeladen.
"DER ALTERNDE WOHLFAHRTSSTAAT" (THE AGEING WELFARE STATE)
Dr. Michael Opielka, Professor of Social Politics at the University of Applied Sciences Jena, will give a lecture on the change of the welfare state from a sociological and psychological perspective.
Professor Michael Opielka will give his talk on Wednesday, November 26th at 14:00h at the FLI within the frame of the lecture series "Science & Society".
He will focus on the cultural and political change from a sociological and psychological perspective.
"The welfare state structures its cititzens life by determining biographical transitions, for instance by defining the retirement age", Opielka explains. The demographic change increasingly challenges those abrupt transitions. Alternative and socially sustainable solutions become more and more important. The welfare state expert also researches the change of ageing concepts and the response of the welfare state to these changes.
How can inter-generation fairness and democratic processes be reconciled when the older generation fears the loss of privileges? "The ageing society provokes fears of cut-backs, death and the power of the old", he explains. This results in denial of old age on the one hand and the insistence on outdated ways of life on the other hand.
With the Seminar series "Science & Society" the FLI aims at complementing its natural scientific research with a humanistic approach in explaining aspects of the ageing society. The organizers of the lecture series, research group leader Aspasia Ploubidou and the work council of the Leibniz institute, look forward to the talk and hope for keen interest. The lecture will be given in German, guests are welcome.
