Die Fachhochschule Potsdam übernimmt am 15. April 2009 das Deutsch-Österreichisches Büro des World Wide Web Consortiums (W3C). Bisher war dieses Büro beim Fraunhofer Institut für Intelligente Analyse- und Informationssysteme (IAIS) in Bonn angesiedelt.
Das W3C ist die maßgebliche Standardisierungorganisation für das Web. W3C-Technologien wie HTML oder XML legen die Basis für den globalen Informationsaustausch. Die Verankerung an der Fachhochschule Potsdam ist für das Büro besonders vorteilhaft: Hier bündeln sich Kompetenzen und Interessen an webbezogenen Themen in Ausbildung und Transfer in hohem Maße. Es ist zudem zu erwarten, dass die Positionierung des Büros in der Region Berlin-Brandenburg eine Vielzahl von Synergien zwischen Forschung, Industrie und nicht zuletzt für Regierung und Verwaltung (Stichwort "eGovernment") erzeugen wird.
