Jena (31.03.01) Als neuer Dekan der Fakultät für Mathematik und Informatik ist an der Friedrich-Schiller-Universität Jena der Mathematiker Prof. Dr. Eike Hertel gewählt worden. Er löst damit turnusgemäß Prof. Dr. Gerd Wechsung ab, der dieses Amt in den vergangenen zwei Jahren ausübte. Der 1940 in Erfurt geborene Hertel absolvierte bereits sein Studium an der Friedrich-Schiller-Universität und ist - nach Promotion und Habilitation ebenfalls in Jena - seit 1983 Professor für Geometrie. Ihm zur Seite steht als neuer Prodekan der Informatiker Prof. Dr. Werner Erhard (51), ein gebürtiger Franke, der seit 1993 den Lehrstuhl für Rechnerarchitektur und -kommunikation innehat.
In der Chemisch-Geowissenschaftlichen Fakultät übernimmt der Geologe Prof. Dr. Georg Büchel (49) die Aufgabe des Dekans von Prof. Dr. Christian Robl. Büchel, seit 1995 in Jena, gilt als Spezialist für Grundwassererschließung, geobiologische Stoffflüsse und vulkanische Maare. Als Prodekan unterstützt ihn der Chemie-Professor Dr. Dieter Klemm (61), der zuletzt durch seine mit dem Thüringer Forschungspreis belohnte Zelluloseforschung von sich reden machte.
