Darmstadt, 16.7.2009. Prof. Dr. Harald Rose, emeritierter Professor für Physik an der Technischen Universität Darmstadt, ist von der Microscopy Society of America einstimmig zum Fellow gewählt worden. Die Auszeichnung wird Prof. Rose am 27. Juli 2009 im Rahmen der Tagung Microscopy and Microanalysis 2009 in Richmond, Virginia, USA, verliehen.
Mit der Ehrung werden Mitglieder der Gesellschaft für besondere Verdienste für die Weiterentwicklung der Mikroskopie ausgezeichnet. Sie ist auf einen kleinen Anteil der Mitglieder begrenzt und gilt laut einer Mitteilung der Microscopy Society of America als besondere Anerkennung der "hervorragenden wissenschaftlichen Karriere" von Prof. Dr. Rose.
Prof. Rose und seine Kollegen Dr. Maximilian Haider, Absolvent der TU Darmstadt und Gründer der Firma CEOS in Heidelberg, und Prof. Dr. Knut Urban, Direktor des Instituts für Mikrostrukturforschung des Forschungszentrums Jülich, hatten zusammen als weltweite Erste mit einem von ihnen entwickelten Elektronenmikroskop einzelne Atome sichtbar gemacht. Rose, geboren 1935 in Bremen, hatte an der TU Darmstadt studiert und promoviert und war ab 1980 Professor am Institut für Angewandte Physik der TU Darmstadt.
