Am 13. Oktober 2009 veranstaltet das Institut für Public Health und Pflegeforschung der Universität Bremen in Berlin den Expertenworkshop "Global Disaster Management and Nursing". Hintergrund ist, dass auch in Katastrophengebieten Pflegekräfte im Einsatz sind, in Deutschland aber wenig über deren Tätigkeit bekannt ist. Zudem zeigt die Erfahrung, dass nicht nur für internationale Einsätze, sondern auch für das Inland bislang kaum Einsatz-Konzepte entwickelt wurden. Der Workshop richtet sich in erster Linie an die international tätigen Hilfsorganisationen.
