Der Rektor, Prof. Dr. Ernst Schaumann, ernannte Prof. Dr.-Ing. Günter Schmidt zum Professor für Wirtschaftsinformatik (C4) an der TU Clausthal.
Professor Dr. Günter Schmidt kommt von der Universität des Saarlandes, wo er die Professur (C4) für Betriebswirtschaftslehre, insbesondere Informations- und Technologiemanagement, innehatte. Er studierte von 1970 - 1977 Wirtschaftsingenieurwesen an der Technischen Universität Berlin, schloß ein Aufbaustudium in der Informatik an, ging während dieser Zeit für ein Jahr zur ISCOR-Steel in Pretoria in Südafrika und wurde 1983 zum Dr.-Ing. promoviert. 1988 verlieh ihm die TU Berlin die Habilitation mit der venia legendi für Angewandte Informatik und Operations Research. Von 1988 - 1991 war Professor Schmidt Dekan und Inhaber des Lehrstuhls für Wirtschaftsinformatik an der European Business School und wechselte von dort an die Universität des Saarlandes. 1995 erhielt Professor Schmidt einen Ruf auf ein Ordinariat für Produktionsinformatik der Universität Klagenfurt. 1995 ging Professor Schmidt als Visiting Professor an die Technische Universität in Sydney, Australien. Drei Jahre später war er als Visiting Professor Gast des Informatik-Institutes in Berkeley.
