Privatdozent Dr. rer. nat. Arnold Adam wurde vom Rektor der TU Clausthal, Professor Dr. Ernst Schaumann, zum C3-Professor für Anorganische Chemie ernannt. Professor Adam, geboren 1956, legte 1972 die Mittlere Reife ab und begann eine Ausbildung zum Chemielaboranten bei der Chemischen Fabrik Köln Kalk GmbH, die er 1976 abschloß. Er arbeitete ein Jahr als Chemielaborant und entschloß sich, das Abitur nachzuholen. Schnelle Schritte: 1979 - 86 Studium der Chemie an der Universität zu Köln, 1986 - 1989 Promotion bei Professor Dr. H.-U. Schuster mit dem Thema "Ternäre Alkalimetallverbindungen mit Elementen der 4. Neben - und 5. Hauptgruppe". 1995 erteilte ihm die Universität zu Köln die venia legendi für das Fach Anorganische Chemie mit der Habilitationschrift: "Beiträge zur Kristallchemie der Carbonate und Hydrogencarbonate". Von 1995 - 1999 war Professor Adam sodann Oberassistent (C2) am Institut für Anorganische Chemie. Im Sommersemester 1998 war er Gast an der Universität von Kalifornien in Berkeley bei Professor Dr. Alexander Pines. Im Sommersemester 1999 und Wintersemester 1999/2000 übernahm er die Vertretung des Lehrstuhls I für Anorganische und Analytische Chemie an der Justus-Liebig-Universität Gießen.
