The BioKryo company started the cryostorage of therapeutically and diagnostically valuable biological samples, like stem cells and tissues, in the summer of 2010 in Sulzbach, Saarland State, Germany.
The spin-off of the Fraunhofer-Institute for Biomedical Engineering (IBMT) can look at 10 years of experience in cryotechnology and stem cell research. Our customers of biotechnology and pharmaceutics benefit from our cryogenic storage, in which they can use to store valuable cell lines as a backup.
Together with other cooperation partners the BioKryo GmbH additionally provides diagnostic and logistic services like the HLA-typification or worldwide sample shipping.
With cryostorage, using liquid nitrogen for cooling, biological samples are stored at a temperature of -150°C. This is the temperature range in which metabolic activities of living cells stop, thus enabling the storage of these cells beyond a human life cycle for later therapeutic use.
