Parliamentary State Secretary Reiche encourages participants of e-conference to engage in networking and in knowledge sharing // transboundary solutions are key to sustainable management of water resources in times of climate change // continuous efforts in mitigating climate change on all levels are essential
In the run up of the 16th Conference of the Parties (COP 16) in November and December 2010 in Cancún/Mexico, the online-climate conference website features a new video podcast in which the Parliamentary State Secretary Katherina Reiche, Federal Ministry for the Environment, Nature Conservation and Nuclear Safety in Germany, encourages the worldwide participants to seize the innovative online-climate conference CLIMATE 2010 (www.climate2010.net) for networking, discussing newest findings in climate research and for developing sustainable solutions.
The key theme of this year’s world-wide CO2-friendly virtual conference is the sustainable management of water resources, a crucial theme especially for those world regions which will in future be most affected by climate change. In her video podcast the Parliamentary State Secretary stated that it is necessary “for each and every one of us to take responsibility for our actions.” She adds: “We are therefore particularly pleased that you [the participants] are our guest at this online-conference and I wish us all a creative and constructive exchange.” The worldwide and free of charge online-conference CLIMATE 2010 is organized for the third time after 2008 and 2009.
This year the Federal Minister for the Environment, Nature Conservation and Nuclear Safety of the Federal Republic of Germany, Dr. Norbert Roettgen, took over the patronage.

from 1 to 7 November 2010 to share and spread knowledge and experiences about climate change with fellow scientists and many other stakeholders.
A range of new, interactive material is already available on the website. The over 100 peer-reviewed papers – the core of CLIMATE 2010 - will be published first from the opening day of the conference onwards. Participants can discuss actively with authors and other participants. Climate videos visualize impressively many already visible impacts of climate change, the climate library offers background information, daily expert live chats bring about interactivity on the site. Brand new features on CLIMATE 2010 are teaching materials and an interactive map showing adaptation projects from all over the world. Especially interesting for youngsters, is a virtual photo album, in which everyone can introduce himself as a climate activist to a worldwide audience.
Renowned partners are the UN Environment Program (UNEP), the Interdisciplinary Panel of Climate Change (IPCC), UN’s Food and Agriculture Organisation (FAO), the Global Water Partnership (GWP) and the Deutsche Gesellschaft für Technische Zusammenarbeit (GTZ). Media partners such as the German WELT Group, the broadcaster NRD Info as well as Comment:Visions support the interactive e-conference. The Daimler AG supports this year’s conference like in the previous years.

The organizers
The Research and Transfer Centre Applications of Life Sciences (abbreviation: FTZ-ALS) of the Hamburg University of Applied Sciences (HAW Hamburg) was established in August 2007. Headed by Professor Walter Leal, the centre offers local, national and international project-related approaches to solving problems primarily in the field of Life Sciences (incl. biotechnology, medical engineering, pharmacology and environmental protection technology) as well as superordinate topics such as energy, climate protection and sustainability.
