"Stiftung Industrieforschung" Scholarship Goes to Hannover

Michael Botts Business Development & Communications Department
Laser Zentrum Hannover e.V.

The Stiftung Industrieforschung (Industrial Research Association) is supporting the physics student Markus Pinkert in his university work in Hannover with a scholarship. His topic is concerned with basic investigations on generating nanoparticles in a liquid, using laser ablation. Pinkert is studying at the Institute for Quantum Optics at the Leibniz University of Hannover, but his research work is being done at the Laser Zentrum Hannover e.V. (LZH).

"My goal is to investigate the mechanisms of nanoparticles generation, and to improve the efficiency of this process," explains Pinkert. "For example, the laser generates silver nanoparticles, which are later added to plastics, such as silicone. The silicone is then made into medical implants such as eardrum tubing, or catheters with antibacterial effects," Pinkert adds. Since the laser-generated nanoparticles will later have an antibacterial effect, they won't need additional antibacterial coatings. The future physicist is also receiving support from industrial partners of the LZH.

The Stiftung Industrieforschung is supporting the work of Pinkert for six months. His mentor at the university is Prof. Dr. Uwe Morgner, head of the Institute for Quantum Optics and Member of the Board of the LZH.

Search / advanced search of the idw archives
    Combination of search terms

You can combine search terms with and, or and/or not, e.g. Philo not logy.

    Brackets

You can use brackets to separate combinations from each other, e.g. (Philo not logy) or (Psycho and logy).

    Phrases

Coherent groups of words will be located as complete phrases if you put them into quotation marks, e.g. “Federal Republic of Germany”.

    Selection criteria

You can also use the advanced search without entering search terms. It will then follow the criteria you have selected (e.g. country or subject area).

If you have not selected any criteria in a given category, the entire category will be searched (e.g. all subject areas or all countries).
