Informations- und kommunikationstechnische Entwicklungen durchdringen immer mehr Bereiche in Unternehmen. Anwendungsbezogene Mathematik, wie sie an der Fachhochschule Stuttgart - Hochschule für Technik (HfT) gelehrt wird, bildet die Basis für Internet-/Intranet-Lösungen, Multimedia-Integration, objektorientierte Systementwicklung, Geschäftsprozessoptimierung und vieles mehr. Der Fachbereich Mathematik und Informatik der HfT veranstaltet jedes Jahr im Herbst ein Forum, in dem Dozenten, aktive und ehemalige Studenten sowie Vertreter der Wirtschaft aktuelle Fragen der anwendungsbezogenen Mathematik diskutieren. In diesem Jahr findet der Mathematikertag am Freitag, 16. November, statt. Auf dem Programm stehen Fachvorträge zu folgenden Themen: "Bayes-Netze und ihre Anwendung im Qualitative Reasoning" (Daimler-Chrysler-AG/HfT), "Zur Krümmungstheorie von Hüllflächen und ihrer Anwendung bei Werkzeugen und Verzahnungen" (IMS Gear GmbH Donaueschingen), "Das papierlose Büro: Document- und Content-Management bei der Allianz Lebensversicherungs-AG" (Allianz) und "Schattenspiele: Computertomographie und Mathematik" (HfT).
Für Firmen besteht die Möglichkeit, sich an der Hochschule zu präsentieren, Projekte für Werkstudenten, Praktikanten und Diplomanden vorzustellen und auf Stellen für Absolventen hinzuweisen.
