Der Rektor der TU Clausthal, Professor Dr. Ernst Schaumann, ernannte Frau Dr.-Ing. Babette Tonn zur Professorin für Gießereitechnik.
1968 in Perleberg geboren, studierte Babette Tonn nach einem zehnmonatigen Praktikum im Nähmaschinenwerk in Wittenberge an der TU Bergakademie Freiberg Gießereitechnik (1987 - 1992). Ihren wissenschaftlichen Weg begann sie 1992 als Doktorandin im Graduiertenkolleg "Werkstoffphysikalische Modellierung" und promovierte 1997. Im Anschluß an ihrem Aufenthalt als Gastwissenschaftlerin an der NTNU Trondheim (1996 - 1998) in Norwegen war Frau Dr.-Ing. Tonn als Technische Assistentin der Geschäftsleitung in der Gießerei von Roll in Délmont/Schweiz tätig.
