Verena Bentele gewinnt am Schlusstag der Paralympics ihre vierte Goldmedaille
München, 19.03.2002 - Die Skilangläuferin Verena Bentele hat am Schlusstag der VIII. Paralympics mit dem Gewinn der vierten Goldmedaille in Salt Lake City für den krönenden Schlusspunkt gesorgt. Die Psychologie-Studentin der Ludwig-Maximilians-Universität lief auch über 15 km Freistil ihren Konkurrentinnen davon.
Bentele, die von Geburt an blind ist, war schon über 5 km klassisch, 10 km Freistil und im Biathlon nicht zu schlagen gewesen und hat nun bei vier Starts in Soldier Hollow vier Goldmedaillen gewonnen. Damit ist die 20-jährige Studentin erfolgreichste deutsche Teilnehmerin der Paralympics in Salt Lake City.
