Dr. Uwe Fiedler Public Relations
Fraunhofer-Institut für Zerstörungsfreie Prüfverfahren (IZFP), Institutsteil Dresden

On January 26/27, the University of Dayton and Fraunhofer IZFP open a joint project center in Dayton. It will be mainly focussed on advanced materials, energy sensors, and nondestructive evaluation. The partners combine their expertise for customers both in the U.S. and Europe and will promote scientific exchange.

The UD IZFP Project Center aims to set up a framework for the collaboration and exchange on scientific issues in the fields of advanced materials, energy sensors, and nondestructive evaluation (NDE). The city of Dayton, where the center will be established, is considered to be the hub for aerospace research and development in Ohio. By combining their respective competencies to perform cutting edge research and development, the University of Dayton and the Fraunhofer IZFP aim to find new solutions for components and structures in order to address future challenges in various areas. Beside common projects for international customers, student and scientist exchange will be promoted.

Directors of the UD IZFP Project Center will be Prof. Dr. Tony E. Saliba (University of Dayton) and Prof. Dr. Norbert G. Meyendorf (Fraunhofer IZFP Dresden).

The University of Dayton (UD) http://www.udayton.edu is ranked among the top three universities in the area of materials research in the United States, and their Graduate Materials Engineering Program (GME) is the number three GME doctoral program in the US.

Fraunhofer IZFP Dresden http://www.izfp-d.fraunhofer.de, being one of IZFP’s location, is at the heart of the European micro-electronic industry, and is responsible for research & development in the areas of structural health monitoring, sensor technology, micro-electronics, nano optics, NDE for aviation and aerospace, and wind generation turbine components.
