Zu 15 der weltweit ausgewählten Art and Technology Labs gehört die Forschungsgruppe MARS - Media Arts Research Studies. Sie stellen ihre Projekte und neuesten Entwicklungen vom 11. August bis 13. Oktober 2002 auf der Ausstellung "Art.ficial Emotion" in Saõ Paulo aus.
In besonderer Weise verbindet das MARS Lab des Fraunhofer-Instituts für Medienkommunikation IMK interaktive Kunst und medientechnologische Forschung. Im Zusammenhang mit Aufbau und Weiterentwicklung der Medienkunst und der digitalen Kultur ist die Expertise des interdisziplinären Forscherteams national wie international sehr gefragt: Auf Einladung des renommierten Medienkulturzentrums Itaú Cultural wird das MARS Lab nun seine Arbeit in Brasilien vorstellen.
Mit der Ausstellung wird auch ein international besetztes Symposium eröffnet, auf dem Monika Fleischmann sowie Wolfgang Strauss als Experten für Kunst und Neue Medien referieren. Etliche international bekannte Experten sind zu dieser Veranstaltung geladen, u. a. : Lev Manovich und Alex Adriaansen (V2, Niederlande), Claudia Gianetti (MECAD, Spanien), Itsuo Sakane (IAMAS, Japan), Joachim Sauter (Art+Com, Deutschland), Audrey Navarre (Daniel Langlois Fondation, Canada), Susan Kennard (Banff Centre, Kanada), Eduardo Kac (Art Institute of Chicago, USA), Jeffrey Shaw (ZKM, Deutschland), Susanne Jaschko (Transmediale, Deutschland), Roy Ascott (CaiiA, Großbritannien)
